attached is a dress I had picked out for my wedding (only it was lighter - champagne).
I'm 47, 2nd wedding. There will be about 90 guests in a park Sept 3rd, 2005 in California. It will be catered, 3 piece ensemble (flutes, violin), nice linens and flatware. When I showed this dress to a dress shop salesperson yesterday, they said it was more like a prom dress and a bride should look like a bride even at a park wedding. She convinced me (as well as other patrons in the store), to switch my original dress for a floor length, ivory, beaded, thin strap gown. It's not puffy at all - has a straight line. Everyone in the store said I looked more like a bride even though I was concerned about the shiny beads and the small train in back. I'll have it altered so they turn the train into a bustle. Does this sound okay for a park, number of guests, etc? The invitation said casual attire, but I knew my fiance would wear a tux and I would get somewhat dressed up - just didn't know what it should be. The only others in the wedding party are my son (who'll give me away - he'll wear a tux), my 21 and 18 year old daugthers will walk in front of us (they have knee length peach dresses). Do you think I will look appropriate for this? Thanks for any advice!

Dear Bride-to-Be,
Honestly you could wear either dress. Both are great! For example the original dress is perfect for a park wedding. On the other hand the new dress sounds just as pretty. Yes it is more formal, but it sounds to me like your park wedding is going to be set up formally. The woman at the shop was right, you are the bride. Just because your dress is more formal than what you expect your guests to wear it is ok...becauser you are the bride.
My suggestion is to go with your gut. Wear whichever dress you feel most comfortable and beautiful. Make you decision on that, not on the fact that you are having your wedding in park, because either dress sounds great and like they fit your affair.
