     prom dress for wedding?

This my 2nd marriage so my fiance and I are paying for everything ourselves, hence a rather lowscale budget. Everywhere I searched the actual wedding gowns were much more than I could afford. I went to David's Bridal and found a nice "wedding-like" dress that flattered my figure and was within my budget. It's white with a pretty glittery silver floral brocade on it from the waist down, and I bought a beautiful veil there that looks perfect with it. I really love the dress. However I recently saw pictures from a prom that the teenage girl that is doing the reading at the wedding attended and her friend is wearing what appears to be the same exact dress! I'm a little embarrassed now. I want to look like a bride, not a prom queen. Am I being silly to worry about this or is this truly a tacky choice on my part? Alas at this point there is not enough time nor funds to buy a new dress. By the way, my fiance doesn't have a clue what my dress looks like, we're having it so that it's a surprise when I go down the aisle. I'm just worried now it's going to be a BAD surprise rather than a good one.

Have you considered that the teenager is the one who made the mistake and bought a wedding gown rather than a prom dress? Crazy

If there is no money to buy anything new and you can't return this dress you'll have to be happy with it - as is. If you have a photo of the dress and can attach it please do so we can all see it. Chances are the original dress you picked will be just fine.

I know david's bridal is having their $99 sale now - heard mixed reviews about those stores so be careful if you go that route. Another suggestion is to call thrift stores in the area asking if they have bridal gowns. You never know what you might find.

attached is a picture of it I found on their website. Sure enough, it's labelled as a prom dress although the lady in the store said nothing about that to me :(

Who cares what it's labeled? It looks like a wedding dress to me - especially when you'll have a veil and bouquet. What do you think makes it appear more like a prom dress to you?

It's a beautiful, elegant dress! Enjoy it! It is absolutely does not matter what it says on the label: who cares about the label - it's the shape, cut and beauty of the dress that counts! Relax and enjoy your wedding!
