style of wedding dress for older bride

What type of wedding dress is appropriate for a 53 year old who is divorced and has grown children? Should it be short or long? I'm 5'7" and slender and the groom is 5'6". I don't want to wear heels and tower over him. Any ideas?

My advice for you is to stay simple. Simple is sexy, elegant, and age appropriate all at the same time. Since you and your fiance are so close in height you have to be careful selecting your heel height. Ballet slipper flats are very in this season, not only for weddings, but they were all over the runways. If you like a heel, go for a shoe with a kitten heel. They are comfortable and sexy too.

My suggestion for your dress is to wear something long and flowy. You don't want to go overboard with too many embellishments on the dress. Depending on what month your wedding is in will depend on the fabric. Since your shape is slender, you are one of the lucky ones that can wear silk. Silk is a material that can be worn any season, and looks excellent on slim women. If I were you I would go to Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, basically any major department store with a great dresses department. Plus if you get a dress there, you can do the one thing most brides don't get to do...wear the dress again!

Good luck,
