     virgin white or off white/ivory

My daughter is 21 and is getting married in the spring. We found the dress she likes and it was ivory. It came is white but she felt the ivory looked better. She is a blond and she felt white made her look like a "snow queen" When we brought the beautiful dress home tonight her father was horrified. He knows that she has saved herself for the wedding and he feels only second marriages wear Ivory and feels her husband will freek when he sees that it is not white white. What do you think? I know the old tradition was pure white for a virgin. What would you do? thanks T

Relax, Dad, ivory is perfectly acceptable for first time brides and is not related to virginity, or lack thereof. Many, many brides are selecting wedding dresses of other colors too. If the ivory dress compliments your daughter's complexion more than white, that's fine. No worries.

thank you so much. TD I hope he is ok with it. If he isnt how tolerating is a store. They didnt have to make the dress new. They had one in the warehouse.

I agree - ivory is an "in" color right now - it's no longer saved for second brides. If he needs something else to "convince" him, call it champagne, or even "blush" if he's not too picky about color names. Today, brides wear what makes them look great. He wouldn't want anything less for his daughter, right?

No, bridal gown stores are generally not tolerant of returns or exchanges. The reality of the situation is that if her dress has to be white, you will likely have to buy a new one. You can ask the store (never hurts to ask) but I would caution Dad strongly that they probably won't accept the dress.

I completely agree. White does not symbolize virginity anymore. In fact, it originally stood for joy. This is what it is supposed to stand for today.
