wearing a wedding dress I bought for a previous engagement
I was engaged a couple years ago which didnt work out- but before we broke up I had a custom Moniquie Lhullier dress made for me. Now I'm engaged and don't want to waste the $9,000 I spent on that dress! Is it totally tacky for me to take that dress and maybe change the top?

Dear Ashelliotts,
No it isn't tacky if you didn't wear it. If your fiance doesn't mind, go for it.

While I agree it's not tacky, the dress may hold some memories of the old relationship. Only you can say if you'll think of another man when you see yourself in the dress.
If you think it will at all remind you of the previous relationship, sell the dress on Ebay or to a consignment shop and take that money and buy something similar. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

Granting that it is not technically wrong, my gut reaction is that it could be hurtful to your fiance and should at the very least be discussed with him. I think it is more appropriate not to take something that was so personal at the time you were originally engaged; something meant to accentuate a romantic event totally in conflict with your current situation, and instead to find a way to recoup as much of the price as possible and buy something "intended for your intended."
