wedding dress storage and packing to travel

Hi,

I have purchased my dress 12 months in advance and I am unsure how to store it.

The lady in the shop suggested I should store it in a duvet cover and have the dress spread out, but I am unsure of how much protection a duvet cover can offer! I have been looking at acid free storage boxes which are designed to protect the dress, but I am concerned about permanent creasing.

Any ideas?

I live in the UK and will be getting married in Canada, so I also have the issue of how to travel with the dress. Although I intend to have the dress pressed on arrival. Is it standard practice to make an appointment to have the dress pressed in the Toronto and Niagara areas?

Thanks,

SaraCrazy

Dear Sara:

I would contact a local gown preservationist. They will be able to tell you whether the duvet cover is sufficient coverage or not. And, what you can do to store it without worry.

As for having your gown pressed, the best recommendation I can make to you is arrive as early as reasonably possible on a business day so your gown can be pressed for the wedding. Who knows, it may fare much better than you think and might not need any pressing at all.

Best wishes,
