Chapel length train with a cathedral length wedding veil length

My daughter has a chapel length train and she wanted to use her friend's cathedral length veil. I told her I didn't think that was appropriate or that it wouldn't look right. Am I wrong? What's the rule for today's bride?

Dear Katrinamimski,

The only time this is appropriate is when the wedding is very formal, in the evening, and in church, unless this is part of your culture. And, the material would have to match.

Best wishes,
