     Attendant descriptions in wedding program

My brother's girlfriend is a bridesmaid in my wedding. I plan on including a short description of the relationship that each attendant shares with me and my fiance. I'm not sure how to list her in the program because I feel that she is more than just a "friend of the bride" but is not legally my "sister in-law". She and my brother share a home and have a child together, so I consider her to be a part of our family. Unfortunately, they have not legalized this yet, so what do I do?

In a similar situation, my future brother-in-law's "partner" is an usher. They are not legally married but share a home together. He is a part of my fiance's family, so what do I do? Is it best just to list him as a "friend of the groom" or try to be more specific?

Dear 83Foxes,

It may be best to skip the descriptions, as it seems logical that your attendants would be your friends or family. This would solve your problems. But, if you decide to include a description, you could simply use the most logical "label"--friend, family member, or significant other.

Best wishes,
