honoring a deceased grandmother during wedding ceremony

My son is getting married and wants to honor his recently deceased grandmother. He is the first grandchild to get married and is having a hard time with her not being there. He is also being deployed to Iraq 6 weeks after his wedding. Is there a way to honor her during the seating of grandparents? He would like to have a vase of flowers placed for her during the time she would be seated. Is this appropriate? Thanks
