     1920s styles

We are a mature couple, both previously married, and planning a small ceremony this summer with sit-down dinner to follow in my fiance's lovely Georgian style home, built in the 1920s. I would like to incorporate styles from the period in which the house was built without turning the event into a costume party. Any suggestions?

Couple things to keep in mind was the style of art during that time period....art deco. Consider doing a
search regarding "art deco", and you'll find lots of information about 1920s fashion and entertainment.

Jazz was extremely popular, and women often wore the close fitting cloche hats that fit as if sculpted to the head. The hats could be found plain or rigorously decorated with beadwork, lace, sequins, or feathers. There are several websites that sell beautiful cloche hats and some brides are now choosing these, as veils can be easily attached and the hats very attractive.

For decorating purpose, art deco vases for table centerpieces could be used. Fiestaware produces flower vases; ideal for centerpieces and wet and dry arrangements. Fiestaware is very colorful, casual tableware with graceful Art Deco styling. We have an outlet shop near us and the bright colors are gorgeous.

Done tastefully, after decorating for your reception the pieces can remain in residence and become part of the house's flavor.

You've chosen an elegant theme. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for the suggestions. Ah, if only my grandmother were still around: rumor has it that she was THE flapper girl!

Any other advice? Keep those cards and letters coming! Wink
