     Aisle runner and guests

I am getting married in a church and have my heart set on having my flower girls throw petals down the aisle floor. I am concerned that this will be slippery since it is a marble floor. The ushers can lead guests to their seats using the side aisles and can mention that they should exit the same way. However, I'm sure some of the guests will forget. Can I place crepe paper in a straight horizontal line along the pews to the left and right of the center aisle to block guests from exiting via the center aisle?

Should I have the aisle runner to make it easier for me and the bridesmaids to exit or will it be more problematic than helpful? a) I'm worried people may trip on the aisle runner b) My dress is ivory and it is hard to find a rayon ivory aisle runner c) I think the only contrasting aisle runner colors, like purple or lavender, come in plastic and I heard that can get caught and might look tacky. d) It's ~ $50 added cost. Since I have more bridesmaids than groomsmen, I don't want to have them escorted out, leaving one woman on her own. I'm not sure if the church will require an aisle runner with the petal throwing. Please advise

Dear Lots of Petals,

The church may have rules against this. Many places do as these stain and are slippery. So, this may be a non-issue.

The aisle runner may be your best choice--in a fabric, not plastic. Red is great if it matches your colors. You and your wedding party will need to practice walking on it and laying it out.

Two bridesmaids can walk with one usher or the extra can walk alone. She is usually the shortest one.

Yes, you could use crepe paper or ribbon to close off the end of the aisles.

Best wishes,
