Can I only have one witness?

I heard that one could have not only one but e.g. two maids of honor. Does that mean that there could be two witnesses? We are going to have a civil ceremony. What does the maid of honor and/or witness exactly and when? I have two very good friends and don't know what to do. Unsure

Dear Can I Only,

You can have two witnesses or two Honor attendants. Usually you would call them witnesses when you are having a very small wedding with just your witnesses, your groom and you. If you are having a typical ceremony with guests and all of the trappings, your honor attendants would split or share equally the duties of the MOH.

A good wedding planning book is a great way to keep all of you on track.
