Ceremony & invitations with a decesed parent

When my fiance & are were dating, we would go to see his father. He always told my fiance that he needed to marry me & for me to always take care of his son! I always thought it was sweet. Unfortunately, his father past away last year. So, I was wondering what we could do to honor his father in our (outside) ceremony, something to represent his love for us. His mother is still living, and I of course want to put her in the announcement/ invitation but how do we put his father on it with out it sounding wrong.

Dear Acknowledging,

You could mention him in your invitation by listing his parents under his name as, son of Mrs. Jane Doe and the late Mr. John Doe. He could also be mentioned in the program briefly.

Your fiance could offer a toast during the reception also.

Best wishes,
