We are just going downtown to the court house to get married. What is the proper amount of money to give the guy that performs the ceremony?

When I did this a few months ago, the Court charged $50 cash. I would call ahead to make sure you have the correct fee. I do not know whether or not it is appropriate to give anything above the amount of the fee. Perhaps one of the experts can answer that.

We already paid the court $40 for the ceremony...just wondered if we ought to give the officiate something more.

Is this a minister or a judge who is marrying you? Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".

A donation to the Minister's church is appreciated and the typical donation is $100, more if the officiate has to travel.
