Does time of ceremony indicate formality?

I am from South Carolina. I have heard that the time a ceremony starts indicates how formal an affair it is and what guests should wear. Is this true? Can you tell me the difference between a 6:00pm ceremony and a 6:30pm ceremony? I want the ceremony to be formal, but not the most formal.

Dear KMW,

Time is just one of the indications of formality. Evening weddings tend to be more formal, but Catholic weddings are often very formal and are typically held during the day. So, it is just one element. Venue, food, and attire indicate formality also.

There is no difference between those times.

Best wishes,
