     How To Light Unity candle

I want to do the unity candle tradition, but am unaware of how the side candles are lit. Do the mothers light them when they are first escorted in? Do they go light them at the same time? Right before we light them? I'm lost, please help.

Here are two popular ways....

-The mothers of the bride and groom may light them at the beginning of the ceremony.

-The mothers of the bride and groom may be invited up by your officiant during the ceremony at the time of the lighting of the unity candle (after the vows.)

During my ceremonies, I often suggest to the bride and groom that they have two roses (or other flowers of choice) placed upon the altar or ceremonial table to be presented to the mothers after they light the side candles. If you want to make it sweeter yet, attach a personal note of love and thanks for the mothers upon your chosen blooms.

Blessings!
