I am getting married in north carolina. My parents, grandparents, and aunt and uncle had their marriage certificate signed by the same judge in ohio, who is a close family friend. I would like him to sign mine too, but is that legal if he is a judge in Ohio and we are in NC?

The person who signs your wedding license as the officiant would have to oversee your vows. He is signing that before him this bride and groom indeed took their vows at such and such time and such and such place. Each state in the U.S. has its own laws. Just contact your local County or City Clerk office (of the Marriage Bureau) in North Carolina. You can probably find the contact information on line. Explain that he is a licensed judge in Ohio, and therefore, "Is his license valid in North Carolina? Can he sign our wedding license?" They may require to see his paperwork. They may not. As I said, each state has their own laws with regard to this. I hope this helps!
