Mother of the Groom's Part in the Ceremony

My fiancee's mother is supposed to have a vital part in our wedding ceremony. However, I am afraid she may not show up. Should I have a backup person to replace her if she does not or should I just leave it be and see what happens? Please Help. Thank you.

What is the part she will play and why would you invite her to play such a vital role if you have doubts about her attendance? Why do you think she will not show up?
