I was adopted by a single parent mother, who never married. I am an only child. My grandfather is still alive, but at any rate, I am not sure I want him walking me down the aisle because he has been, well, a grandfather in role to me. I have uncles but they live too far to come to the wedding. I want a man to walk me down the aisle. I know a couple of middle-aged men who have played important roles in my life, and am thinking of one of them to walk me down the aisle.
My grandfather is able to walk just fine at 85 years old. Should I have him walk me down the aisle anyway out of respect? Should I ask him if he would be offended if he didn't walk me down the aisle?
I need some etiquette answers here.

There are no etiquette answers for you. This is purely a personal decision.
If you are very close with your grandfather, then you should ask him. The person who walks you down the aisle does not have to be a "father" but should be someone in a parental role. This sounds like your grandfather to me but only you know the relationship.
You do not have to be escorted. You may walk alone. Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
