Processional - Can I ask guest to stay seated?

I am the MOB and would like the guests to remain seated until the bride and her father walk past the pew they are seated in. Is that appropriate? How would I do that? I really want to see my daughter walk down the aisle and am afraid my view will be blocked if everyone stands at the same time. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Dear Sueevans,

This may be very difficult because it is respectful for everyone to stand as the bride walks in. However, it is only tradition and there are no rules against it. It just may be difficult to do this politely.

Your daughter could include a line in the program asking all guests to remain seated for the processional. The officiate could also state this.

Best wishes,
