My fiance and I want to recite the traditional vows - but also our own personal vows. Will reciting both sets of vows be too time consuming for the guests? Is it appropriate for us to do this?

Re: [measetobe] Reciting both traditional and personal vows?

My experience is that a traditional ceremony with traditional vows, that may include unity candle lighting, scripture reading, or a solo, takes roughly 30 minutes, or thereabout. So, if you have any of the above elements planned, then adding personalized vows will add a little time, say another 10-15 mintues. This is not an absolute number but is possible.
Such a short duration may not seem like much but you will also need to think about how a longer ceremony will affect the time window you have for your photos afterward, the cocktail hour (if you are having one) and your reception block. Now, this is not to discourage you from adding personalized vows. I would just recommend working toward a five minute time stop for each one of your vow recitals and reworking your ceremony order and components to keep it as close to 30 mintues as possible. Unless, there is some special religious protocol to follow and the 30 minute time line just is not possible. Rhonda Allen, Bridal Consultant New Beginnings Weddings
