Would it be proper for the mother of the groom to have a soloist perform a tribute to the couple during the ceremony?

Dear Bigsister,

The planning should be done by the couple. If the couple wants a soloist, they will say so. But, it isn't polite for anyone else to hire a soloist unless the couple wants one.

A better tribute would be a nice speech at the reception.

Best wishes,
