Re: [Et.byRebecca] Who lights memorial candle

I fully agree with Rebecca. In today's contemporary wedding ceremony, I counsel couples to have the lighting of a candle done by someone who is significant to the deceased loved one. And of course, you can do this anyway you like! Annemarie Juhlian, Wedding Officiant & Minister

I agree this is a personal choice. Here is how it is normally done in ceremonies I officiate. Between the opening prayers and the biblical readings I will normally say something such as " _____ and ____ have all had people who are significant in their lives and most of them are physically present today, those who can not be are here in ___ and ___ hearts and in spirit. Now we wish to recognize one of those people _____ dad. _____ will now light a memorial candle to symbolize her dad's presence here today." I hope this helps. Best wishes and God bless.
