how to replace the candle ceremony for outdoor wedding

We are having an outdoor wedding on the water and want to replace the candle lighting ceremony. We have heard about doing sand or water, but want something unique and not too cheesy. Please help.

You can also do the colored water combining two colors with a third to create a totally new color representing the new bridal couple as one.

The same can be done with sand. You take two cylinders of two different colors of sand and pour them into a third to mix the colors, which 'symbolically' becomes one.

Cheers!
