In my sons upcoming wedding, they want to unite their friends, families and of course, themselves. They had planned to have the Maid of Honor and Best Man follow the bridesmaids and groomsmen down the isle, holding two candles. When the guests stand for the entrance of the bride, MOG will stand next to the last bridesmaid. When the father of the bride gives her away, he will remain standing at the end of the groomsmen. The minister will then state something to the effect that the candle that they are holding will be passed through all the attendants to the FOB and MOG and how the attendants represent all their friends and the father and mother ..all their families. Then the FOB will hand the candle to the groom and MOG will hand candle to bride, showing uniting of each into family. The bride and groom proceed to light the unity candle with those two candles. Now, I have three questions about doing it this way. Is it alright for best man to walk down isle and not stand with groom? And, when the FOB and MOG hand off candles they will need to cross to other side to be seated. Does the MOG seat first? And, is that kind of unity ceremony acceptable?
I think the first person you question on this ceremony is the clergy. You need to know that you'll be allowed enough time for this ceremony, that the church will allow lit candles off the altar.. Nancy Tucker President of Weddings Beautiful US http://www.weddingsbeautiful.com
