Anniversary Party One Year After Wedding Question...

I wasn't sure what forum to post my question in so I decided on this one. Last year on September 14th I got married on the beach, which was an informal wedding, but beautiful! This September 14th my husband and I would like to have an anniversary party and invite the same people who came to our wedding, but formal. Would it be tacky to have a formal anniversary party, but we had an informal wedding last year? I just want to make sure I am not doing anything that is frowned upon...Thanks in advance!

Dear Miranda,

There isn't anything incorrect or wrong about it per se. But, it could appear as if you two just want to create a gift giving situation, because it is usually the bench mark anniversaries that are more formal. These aren't mandatory gift giving events. But, many guests give one anyway. Perhaps you could make it known by word of mouth that this is not a gift giving event. Then it will be just what you want, a celebration of your first year.

Best wishes,
