I have a long-term boyfriend who I live with who was not invited to my best friend's wedding, in which I am a bridesmaid. I understand that typically boyfriends are not required by etiquette to be invited. However, as the times are changing and more couples are living together longer than being married, has that etiquette shifted as well? I consider my boyfriend more of a significant other since we are practically engaged by this point in our relationship. Therefore, is it rude of the bride to not have invited him to the wedding with me? She has said that she did not invite "dates" in order to cut down on costs - which I totally understand. However, I have already spent hundreds of dollars on the bridesmaids dress, transportation to the wedding and lodging while there for the weekend.
Just wondering what is and is not proper etiquette these days regarding this situation. Thank you!

Dear Lady,
Etiquette has always required significant others, which also includes long term boyfriends, to be invited. So, he should be invited. Plus, the couple is obligated to pay for your lodging.
Perhaps an etiquette book would be an excellent wedding gift.
