     Can a girl be ringbearer

I have a neice (she is also my goddaughter) who I adore. I do not have any nephews though and neither does my fiance. I do have two male second cousins who are of the right age but I am not really close to their parents. I have a 13 year old second cousin I am close to who is male. I had orignally intended to have my neice be flower girl but when I was discussing who would be ringbearer we were puzzled. I came up with the idea of having my neice be the ringbearer and not having a flower girl. My fiance loved the idea as he also adores my neice Katie. We both agreed that we would prefer this option over having a second cousin, we do not really know well, standing up in the party. I am also worried that we might offend one of my cousins if we did ask one of my second cousins to stand up. Since I am not really that close to any other children, I am worried that choosing one cousin's son over another would offend someone.

Since my fiance and I love the idea of my neice as ringbearer, with no flower girl, would it be acceptable to have a girl as a ringbearer? (we would have my neice wear a pretty dress like a flower girl dress).

Mary Jene -

I am puzzled as well. Why can't your neice simply act as a traditional flower girl and leave out the ring bearer?

We thought of that option. however we thought that the role of ringbearer was more important than the role of flower girl and if we had to choose to eliminate one or the other we prefered to have a rignbearer and now flower girl.

She could be either one or you could have no children in your party. If she is older than 7/8, she would be too old.
