Ceremony and reception a year apart?

My fiance and I are hoping to still get married this year (November or December, 2007.) We are having a small ceremony with only family, but we would have a bigger reception for all family and friends. We were considering holding the reception a year later on the date we got married. How would friends and family view that? We're trying to stick to the marriage instead of the wedding planning madness. My concern is that some friends will feel slighted by our idea. Any suggestions? Thank you very much!

Dear Hannibee,

Please feel free to plan the wedding you want to have.

Hosting a belated reception does limit the traditional elements you would include as they don't really seem appropriate for a couple who has been married for some time. And, waiting for a full year makes this more of an anniversary party rather than a wedding reception. But, you definitely could host a anniversary party.

Neither is considered a gift giving event.

Best wishes,
