     Engagement Party Rules?

Once and for all...Is is proper to include people in an engagement party (invite them to) when they are definatly by any means NOT invited to the wedding?

Is it proper to host an engagement party with 250 people (when only 100 are invited to the wedding) like you would a wedding? Engraved invites...specialized napkins...etc?

Dear Engagement Party Rules,

I'm sorry, but no one should be invited to an engagement party that is not invited to the wedding. Plus, an engagement party is usually more intimate. Yes, it can be formal, but 250? That is a lot of people. And, this is not usually considered a gift giving occasion. Yes, close family and friends may wish to give a gift, but they will have many other opportunities in the future.

So, bottom line: if there are 250 invited to an engagement party, those 250 should be invited to the wedding.

Sincerely,

Thank you so much, that is exactly what I though. If only my mother-in-law believed me. But that's another story!
