Over a year ago my daughter planned her wedding date for mid-September 2008. My husband and I are both from close, large families. Last spring a niece on my husband's side became engaged and chose a date two weeks before my daughter's as her wedding date. My daughter was hurt; the only comfort I could give her is that no one is having to travel to her cousin's wedding and family will have to travel to my daughter's, so it will be different and special in that way. I have recently found out that my niece on my side of the family has chosen to get married two weeks before my daughter also (on the Sunday after my husband's niece). My daughter cried, I was upset, etc. After calming down for a few days I called my sister-in-law (the bride's mother) and shared that I found her daughter's choice of wedding date to be very hurtful to me. She said she didn't believe that it in anyway would diminish my daughter's day. I told her that I disagreed, if even from a logistics standpoint, as many family members would have to travel to both. It sounded like they might change the date; however, I was just told that the wedding date stands and that my niece is "sorry she her my daughter's feelings." What is the etiquette for planning family weddings? I thought it was just common sense to plan them at least a month apart.
Thank you.
