     Food for reception

We have an evening wedding scheduled for 7pm with reception following immediately after. The wedding and reception are in the same place, so there will be a short lapse in time for guest. My question is since the reception is so late what type of food is proper to serve? Can it be sandwiches and cheeses with fruits and vegetables? Or does it have to be a sit-down or buffet meal? This will help settle the argument with my future mother-in-law.

Dear Food,

I hate to say it, but it depends. It depends on the formality and length of your reception. Your guest will be expecting some sort of meal at that time. However, if your wedding and reception is informal, your sandwiches and various other food, should be fine. If your reception is longer than the typical 3 hours, you would want to beef up your food table also.

Best wishes,
