How do I handle a reception the day before the wedding?!
I have been invited to a reception that is the day prior to the wedding. Do I just congratulate the couple as if they are married? Also, I am so mortified by the number of wedding invitations I have received of late that contain the gift registry information. When did this become acceptable etiquette? Would it be equally rude of me to ignore their registry and buy them something else instead(an etiquette book, for example)?
Thank you,
Teresa

Dear Teresa,
I love your idea of an etiquette book. Perhaps that would be a great gift for the people hosting their wedding reception before their wedding. This isn't proper, so I have no idea of how you would handle it. Don't take a gift. Ship that to their home before the wedding.
It is a major social faux pas to include gift registry information with the invitation. But, store reps tell couples that it is acceptable now and of course couples believe it. It is a good deal for all except the poor guest who receives the revolting invitation.
