Invitation for someone who can't come

I mentioned to a former coworker I saw recently that I was planning to invite his family to my wedding. He was touched and pleased but said he and his wife would be on an anniversary trip that weekend. Do I send the invitation anyway even though I know he can't come? Thank you!

Dear Invitation for Someone...,

Yes, you would send the invitation anyway. Your friend's plans may change, plus you already mentioned it to him. It is a nice gesture.

Congratulations!
