Mother-in-law is impatiently waiting for thank you

I was married on August 15 in Mexico. We arrived home on August 24. I am a teacher, and started back to school on August 25. The beginning of the year is a crazy time for teachers, with long hours. It can be compared to tax season for an accountant. I have finally managed to find time to upload my pictures and order personalized thank you notes with our pictures on it. I have read that thank you notes should be sent immediately, or no later than 1 month after returning from the honeymoon. Keeping this in mind I paid for a rush order on my cards. My mother-in-law has expressed to my husband for the past week that she is upset that she hasn't received a thank you card yet. She knows how crazy the beginning of the school year has been for me. She also knows that I ordered personalized cards. Am I truly as inconsiderate as she says, or is she out of line for being this upset about it?

Dear Tinajdixon,

The cards should have been sent by now. But, she shouldn't be complaining either. After all, her son is as responsible as you for writing a thank you card. It may be best to remind him of this.

Best wishes,

Thank you for your response. It was also my husband's responsibility to upload the pictures to the web site that we ordered the cards from, which he never did. I guess I am mostly put out by the fact that she seems to have given the gift solely for the purpose of being recognized for it. There are unlying control issues in the gift giving as well.

It is unfortunate that there are people like that, but there are. And, you are the lady of his life now. That probably has a bit to do with it.

Perhaps your husband should speak to his mother.
