Parents of Attendants: to invite or not to invite?

Hi...my mom said that it is "customary" to invite the parents of all attendants. Although we only have a small bridal party I was wondering if inviting our attendants parents is something we should do? We are only having a small wedding with immediate family and close friends and since a couple of my bridesmaids parents live far away and I do not know them at all (met them a couple times here and there) I was wondering if this was really necessary. Thank you!

I have never heard of that custom. Typically, we invite those close to us. If you are close to the parents of a bridal party member, and you want to invite them, please do. If not, you're not obligated.
