Seating Stemother as mother of the groom

I am the step mother of the groom. His bio mom moved across the country when he was 9. (he is now 25) I have happily been the mother on duty since he was 10. Over the years, his contact with her has declined to only brief phone calls on major holidays. He initially did not want her even invited, but I have convinced him that he would regret that decision some day. My question is a selfish one, I admit. Should she be given the prime seating with his father and me behind?

Dear SSGal,

It isn't selfish to want to be viewed as the mother you have been all of these years. And, you have been. So, you would be seated as the mother with her in the third row.

Best wishes,
