Should ex-fiance share the costs of a cancelled wedding
Hi,
I need some advise. My engagement was called off by my ex-fiance after my mom already paid for my wedding dress, 3 bridesmaid dresses totalling $1500.00 and I'm out $430.00 for the wedding ring. I think my ex should split the cost of all of this and pay my mother back.
Is it ok to ask this of him?

Dear Michelle,
All wedding costs should be equal between the bride and groom these days. Your mother was very generous to contribute. So, yes, ask him. In fact, and I'm not an expert in law, but he may be 'legally' obligated. You may want to check that option out if he balks.

The law is different in many states in the US so get some local legal advice if your fiance does not agree to chip in. However, in many states you will be required to give back the engagement ring, if there is one. You may want to save yourself a lot of grief and just chalk it up to experience.
