Want good friend to be a part of wedding, but not enough room in wedding party

I'm getting married in May and am planning on having three bridesmaids since my fiance will only have three people standing up for him. The only problem is that I have another very close friend who I would like to be a part of the ceremony. It's not going to be a 'traditional' ceremony, so would it be wrong or look bad to have four bridesmaids while my fiance has only three people with him? Or is there something else that I can ask this friend to do at the wedding (such as hostess), while still being able to feel like she's a part of it and be in wedding photos?

Dear Terbsc,

It is perfectly fine to have more attendants than your fiance. This is not a problem. But, do remember that the formality of your wedding some what dictates how many attendants we have. The more formal, the more attendants. So, if yours is informal with fewer invited guests, you might only want one attendant on each side.

Best wishes,
