My boss is my favorite out of everyone I work with (not sure how he feels about me) and would like to invite him and his family to my wedding. He is most likely the only member of sr. management I'm inviting and I'm only inviting maybe a couple other co-workers. Is this appropriate?
Also, I'd like to invite my other friend at work, but she is a single mother and I know her financial situation isn't the best. Our wedding is in a city about 2 hrs away and I don't want her to feel obligated to spend the money to come, or to feel obligated to buy us a gift, but at the same time, I don't want her to feel like we don't want her to come.
Any thoughts? Insights? Advice?
Sincerely,
Confused

Dear Confused,
Normally I would suggest that you do not invite your boss as it could appear as apple polishing--very negative. But, if you have a close relationship with him, then it should be fine.
You can invite only those with whom you are close. Just speak to the single mother in private about your concerns. It may be better to say that you want her there but don't want her to feel obligated to give a gift, instead of stating that you don't think that she can afford one.
