We are having a church wedding with an open invitation in the church bulletin but the reception will be off site at a subdivision club house about 20 mins away. It is small and we would prefer for the reception to be "invitation only". What is the proper way to word the invitation in the bulletin? Due to apartment lease expiration and jobs the wedding is in less than two months because we will be moving right afterward.

Your invitation to the church should include at least a cake and punch reception at the church prior to the reception. It would be in poor taste to do an open invitation to the ceremony without some form of reception. Therefore, you should make the invitation in the bulletin including a note of a short cake/cookies and punch reception. Gosh, that's what I was going to say! It is true. That is the very best way to handle this situation because it is considered impolite to invite guests to a wedding and not to the reception.
