My daughter and new son-in-law received two gifts at their wedding that had no card or tag. By seeing who came and who brought gifts, they have narrowed the possibilities down to 10 people who could have given the gifts. Is it acceptable to ask these people if they gave the two gifts in question, or would that be too much of an embarrassment for those who didn't bring a gift? If the newlyweds don't ask, there will be two people who receive no thank you card. Thank you.

Dear No Tag,
This is a tough one and it happens quite often. There really is no perfect way to deal with this. It is usually best if someone other than the couple mentions to each of these people about the circumstances and hopefully the gift givers will speak up. Usually the truth is found out quickly.
