Reception invitation with registry info in it - greedy, tacky, greedy!!
I am sorry but have to vent here. I just received an invitation for a reception in the mail a few days ago. In it was a gift registry for not only 1 store but 4 different stores. The kicker is they eloped a month ago! The bride made very clear she didn't want ANYONE to attend Her wedding. Upon their return, I sent a card with a gift, wishing them best wishes, with absolutely no response. I looked at the registry to find $ 400 lamps, $ 200 tea pots, $ 700 patio furniture- patio furniture??, various $ 200 candle holders, picture frames, kitchen accessories vases, rugs all of which are $ 200 and up, 4 different plates/china one of which serves 1 at costs over $ 100 a piece she wants at least 12 sets of each, she even asked for Christmas linens and accessories-they ELOPED. Now, I think what I am confused about is the couple struggles financially, one of them( I won't name which one) does not even work! How in your right mind can you ask for such elaborate gifts when you can't afford 1 thing on your registry? I guess I just see this as greedy and tacky knowing the couple ( I know he didn't register and his mother is highly embarrassed at this point) I knew she was off. I thought this was a celebration of the union not about the gifts and this seems like it is all about the gifts. Any thoughts?

Yes, greedy, tacky and all of the above. Your rant is the perfect explanation of how these invitations are received.
A reception is not a gift giving event, the wedding ceremony is, and it is not polite to insert registry information into any invitation (except shower).
They can ask for whatever they want to ask for, but you do not have to comply. You sent a gift already, which was very generous given the fact that you were not invited to the wedding. Attend the reception and bring two things - a smile and a hearty appetite! Top Wedding Questions Forum Moderator - "Write your sorrows in the sand, your blessings in stone".
