guests who didn't bring a gift

I'm putting together my list to write thank you's and I noticed that several guests (good friends and family!!) did not bring a gift. I did have an outdoor wedding and it did start to rain. As a result, the presents were rushed inside by several frantic people. I suppose something could have been misplaced or lost in the shuffle.
Is there a polite way to ask someone if they did in fact bring something?
Someone please help! It's driving me crazy, I think it is so completely rude!

Please search - this question has been answered before. You should look in the wedding gift section.
