'non-bridal party' adult 'walking' in a wedding?

My 41 year old friend has been asked by a 25 year old, former student and employee of my friend, to "walk in her wedding". It is my understanding that she would walk down the aisle, escorted, just prior the girls mother to be seated along side of the mother. Is this something common? Is this considered party of the bridal party? My friend insists it is not. And does role have a title? I have never heard of it before.

thanks for you help

It is not something I have heard of before - but it seems to be a great honour for your friend and she must be delighted. So, no, I dont know of a name for this role - but it seems to have been thought through by the bride and your friend will most certainly be part of the bridal party.
