My sister is having her wedding on Catalina (an island off Southern California) in July. The bridesmaids will be in semi-formal dresses, the groomsmen will be in short sleeve ivory linen shirts with no jackets. The ushers will also be in short sleeve linen shirts. The groom will be in a suit so he will have a boutonniere but how do you handle boutonnieres for the other men? It seems wrong to wear a boutonniere with no jacket but it also seems wrong to not have these men wearing something special.

Ahhhhhh I used to spend summers on Catalina...My dream home! You will have a great time!
As far as bouttionneires go the traditional type do seem a bit out of place without jackets. I would suggest you do a variation on the norm and perhaps make up something very lightweight and casual for the guys. Perhaps a tiny abalone shell of starfish with a loop of beargrass or some such accent. A stick pin type of treatment can be quite dapper and snappy in an appropriately casual way. most of all be sure the weight and balance factor is addressed. Whatever you do needs to be very light weight an balanced so it doesn't pull.
Have fun and I hope you get to the Glass bottom boat trip in Catalina...Its better than a Disney movie! Sue of Hobart's Fine Florals http://www.hobartsfineflorals.com
