My fiance and I have decided to move our wedding from Sept 06 to this Christmas/New Years. We are in a crunch for time and need to pick flowers this weekend (we live in DC, the wedding is in CT, so we only have appointments on Saturday).
I am wearing a white dress with apple accents, the BMs are wearing apple tea length dresses, and the Groom and GM are wearing black tuxes with apple ties and vests. Should I avoid using red in the bouquets? My fiance thinks Poinsettias would be great for my bouquet. Is that too much? Any ideas for flowers/colors in the girls/guys flowers?

Pointsettias are not a suitable cut flower...they wilt and the milky sap can stain. I see no reason you can't use red for the flowers. Perhaps you might consider a red bridal bouquet and small white nosegays for your attendants (Maybe with the addition of a few red berries). Alternately just all white or any combination you like. Some of the flowers besides roses, (a huge favorite of course) are dendrobium orchids, Calla Lilies, Gardenias, white lilac, tulips and possibly even peonies. There is a great dancing little filler flower in white with burgundy called genistra (white scotch broom.) My only warning would be to somehow rim an all red bouquet with something white or green if it is for the attendants otherwise it will just blend into the berry dresses. Also be sure to get pretty specific with what you want your florist to use. This date is right after (or thereabouts) a holiday and sometimes suppliers can run short of certain flowers. Make sure they book your special flowers early so you will not be dissapointed with substitutions. Mainly go talk to ypur florist and have fun. The flowers that time of the year are awesome! No worries...enjoy...It will be lovely! Sue of Hobart's Fine Florals http://www.hobartsfineflorals.com
