I am getting married at a hotel on the water. The reception is in a glass room overlooking the ocean. My dress is white with lace and the bridesmaids a sort of marine blue. My accents (chair bows and invitations) are silver.
What colour of flowers and type would you suggest for centerpieces and bouquets?
Lots of ideas here! How about soft blue hydrangeas in sliver julip cups surrounding a glass cylinder with floating candles and silver ribbon in the water.
Or glass / silver revere style bowls with green and blue hydrangea, white roses and loops of beargrass.
Or tall clear glass vases with beargrass and open Iris' with votives placed on a simple mirror square or round.
Or Glass cube vases banded with silver ribbon placed on a mirror and filled with all shades of mixed blue and purple flowers with grassy, ferny, beachy filler flowers.
If you want to look beyond blue and white consider butter yellow and /or lavender. All in all you have a lot of choices and the reception site sounds georgeous! I guess my main suggestion would be in the area of the mirrors, which will pick up on the silver you are using elsewhere. Good luck and have fun! Wow what great ideas. I am not going to lie to you, I had to look up what a julep cup and beargrass looked like, but I understand now and I think it would look beautiful. Are hydrangea and irises expensive? What are your thoughts on going totally contrasting and having orange and red flowers? The flower from my home province is a tiger lily and part of me would like to give a tip of the hat to my roots by doing a deep orange version of it in my bouquet. Would that look good in centerpieces? If not, could I have that as a bouquet and have the centerpieces as you suggested? Is $1500 for flowers reasonable for 20 tables and four bouquets and boutineirres?
Glad you wrote back! I love the idea of tiger lilies. Orange and blue make a great combination and will be dramatic and outstanding together. The lilies to represent your home are a sweet idea as well.
If contrast is what you are looking for anything in the orange, salmon, soft yellow, coral, and hot to warm pink range will work. I would steer clear of red. It takes on a military look.
For your tables talk to your florist about combining the two or having some orange tables and some blue tables. I love the 2 different centerpieces idea just to dance the eye a bit.
To be sort of contemporary perhaps varied height cylinder vases with just Iris, just lilies and just hydrangeas on different tables would look nice. Should fit the budget as well.
In terms of your pricing question, Neither light blue hydrangea or iris are terribly expensive flowers. (Deep blue hydrangea are.) As far as your $1500 price range goes that is very subject to your local circumstances. From my experience here on the East coast it seems reasonable. I would say tell the florist you are working with right up front what you are looking to spend. It makes it easier on everyone. I think that is a fair budget and they should be able to find a way to fulfill an elegant look within those numbers.
Thanks so much for the wonderful ideas! I am so inspired and I love ALL the ideas you had. Thank you so much for all your help. I can't wait to go to florists now. Thanks again!
