     Fall Wedding Flowers Bouquet

We are trying to keep our budget for the wedding to a minimum. I really want, for a fall wedding, a sunflower bouquet. For my portrait, I bought sunflowers from a local wholesaler, cut the stems and tied with raffia - it was the look I wanted, but halfway through the portrait shoot, the sunflowers wilted! They looked terrible! How can I get them to last the day of our wedding? Afternoon through ceremony and into the night with the reception? I am really scared!

Dear Morgan:

I understand that you are on a budget, but instead of taking the do it yourself approach on your bouquet, you should consider having a local florist prepare it for you. You see flowers, and this includes sunflowers, must be prepared, dipped or sprayed and then stored properly in order to prolong their life. It's not as simple as buying them, bringing them home and making a bouquet. A florist would know how to do that.
