     Keeping flowers fresh

My daughter is getting married in late October and having fresh flowers. My friend and I will be making all the arrangements including the bridal party flowers. My question is how do I make the arrangements on Friday and keep them fresh for a noon wedding on Saturday?

Even though it's late October, I still would recommend that you find some way to refrigerate them. You don't want all of your work looking wilted on the day of the wedding. Also, be sure to over estimate your set-up time for the delivery of the flowers. You don't want to put yourself in the position of getting over stressed because you are running late.

I really see no big problem if you condition them well before you arrange them and keep them in a cool spot like a basement or garage.
The key to long lasting fresh flowers is all in the conditioning. When you first get the flowers strip off most of the leaves, recut the stems and put them in lukewarm water to drink overnight. A little flower conditioner or seven up (with sugar) in the water will help them open more if you want that. Keep them at room temperature overnight to fully rehydrate.
When you arrange them always re-cut the stems and switch to cool water with just a drop of bleach to keep the water clear. Just keep out of the heat and all should be fine.
If you are arranging in floral foam be sure to soak the bricks to full saturation before arranging ( overnight in cold water is good) and keep the foam WET, not just moist for as long as possible before the wedding.
And yes, allow time . It will probably take longer than you think. Best of luck!
